Let J : E→ 2E be the normalized duality map on E. A new class of mappings, J-pseudocontractive maps, is introduced and the notion of J-fixed points is used to prove that T := (J – A) is J-pseudocontractive if and only if A is monotone. In the case that E is a uniformly convex and uniformly smooth real Banach space with dual E∗, T : E→ 2E is a bounded J-pseudocontractive map with a nonempty J-fixed point set, and J – T : E→ 2E is maximal monotone, a sequence is constructed which converges strongly to a J-fixed point of T . As an immediate consequence of this result, an analog of a recent important result of Chidume for boundedm-accretive maps is obtained in the case that A : E→ 2E is bounded maximal monotone, a result which complements the proximal point algorithm of Martinet and Rockafellar. Furthermore, this analog is applied to approximate solutions of Hammerstein integral equations and is also applied to convex optimization problems. Finally, the techniques of the proofs are of independent interest.

Approximation of Solutions of Equations of Hammerstein Type in Hilbert Spaces
Let H be a real Hilbert space. Let K, F : H → H be bounded, continuous and monotone mappings. Suppose that u∗ ∈ H is a solution to Hammerstein equation u + KFu = 0. We introduce a new explicit iterative sequence and prove strong convergence of the sequence to a solution of the Hammerstein equation.
متن کاملDegenerate kernel approximation method for solving Hammerstein system of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind
Degenerate kernel approximation method is generalized to solve Hammerstein system of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. This method approximates the system of integral equations by constructing degenerate kernel approximations and then the problem is reduced to the solution of a system of algebraic equations. Convergence analysis is investigated and on some test problems, the propo...

Let H be a real Hilbert space. For each i = 1, 2, ...m, let Fi, Ki : H → H be bounded and monotone mappings. Assume that the generalized Hammerstein equation u + ∑m i=1 KiFiu = 0 has a solution in H. We construct a new explicit iterative sequence and prove strong convergence of the sequence to a solution of the generalized Hammerstein equation. Our iterative scheme in this paper seems far simpl...

Let H be a real Hilbert space. Let F : D(F ) ⊆ H → H, K : D(K) ⊆ H → H be bounded monotone mappings with R(F ) ⊆ D(K), where D(F ) and D(K) are closed convex subsets of H satisfying certain conditions. Suppose the equation 0 = u + KFu has a solution in D(F ). Then explicit iterative methods are constructed that converge strongly to such a solution. No invertibility assumption is imposed on K, a...

Let Y be a Banach space, Y* its conjugate space, X a weak*-dense closed subspace of Y* with the induced norm. We denote the pairing between x in X and ƒ in 7 by (y, x). If T is a mapping from X into 2 F , T is said to be monotone if for each pair of elements [x9 y] and [u, w] of G(T)9 the graph of T, we have (y—w, x—w)^0. Tis said to be maximal monotone from X to 2 F if Tis monotone and maximal...
